Mark 6:30-34

The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught. Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”
So they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place.  But many who saw them leaving recognized them and ran on foot from all the towns and got there ahead of them. When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things.

Who are these shepherds we keep hearing about?  We are all called to be shepherds throughout our lives, to share the word and love of Christ with those who do not know him.  We are called to give of our time and talents with those in our communities who are less fortunate.  It's so easy to forget about or overlook those right around us who are in need of a comforting word or helping hand.  Just 15 minutes away from me in the inner city are people who are unemployed and are unable to make ends meet.  There are children who don't know where their next meal is coming from.  And yet so often I let my busy schedule keep me from doing what I can to help.

To those who much is given, much is asked.

If you live in the Cincinnati area and are looking for a great way to give back, take a look at the Brighton Center.   Regardless of where you are, get involved.  I encourage each of you to join me to reach out and make a difference in our community. One person CAN make a difference.
